Stan is like this in real life .

I drive two hours on the highway every day. I see lots of stuff. There is a little town near the state line that had one of their cars on the side of the interstate about half the time I rode by. This local cop was always sitting next to the god damned road, it seemed.

One day it just pissed me off more than usual and I called that police department and asked to talk to the chief.  The assistant chief was the man who answered the phone.

So I mention to him that one of his officers is always sitting on the side of HWY 421 ( not the actual number).

He quickly tells me that his towns jurisdiction includes a small part of the highway ... blah blah blah ... (I knew that already of course)

I then proceed to ask him a few questions that make him stutter and think for a moment.

1. How many officers are on duty, usually on duty, how many in the force besides the police chief ?

2. Did he have any officers on bicycle patrol or checking all the business doorknobs in his pretty little town?

3. Did they have all the crimes solved that had recently been committed in their pretty little town?

4. Did he ever put an officer on foot patrol on main street to help old ladies put stuff in their cars and say hello to children?

I asked him a few other really good questions that I cant remember now. I also pointed out that his officer was always parked before I got to the sign that said his town was one mile away. Their jurisdiction is only one mile.

After reminding him that I knew that his officer was patrolling the interstate highway, that was already well patrolled by the state police and the Sheriff's Department. I also reminded him that the people in his town were already paying to have that highway patrolled without paying for their local police department.

I ended the call by telling him that he was lucky that I didn't live in his town or I would be at the next town hall meeting getting the police department made smaller and getting everyone's taxes lowered.

  NOW THE FUNNY STAN PART

This phone call was about two years ago. I still drive by that town twice a day.  I have not seen that police car anywhere near that highway.

Sometimes, making the right complaint to the right person helps. I still wonder if I was talking to the guy who always sat next to the highway ... lol

Check one for the little guys !
