Do We Need God Or Religion?

 

For as long as there has been humanity, there has been a reverence for God/s. We humans have worshipped, prayed and sacrificed for our God, our god, G-d, The Gods, god-head. 

We can go back to ancient societies where there evidence of worship to God/s so the practice is as old as ourselves. We humans naturally have a tendency to try to make logic and sense of the world and we started with the world itself. Many stories begin of a God in the Heavens (I use caps because that's how I read it) that bore a son (and later more) but always a son and humans separately. The humans generally receive breath OR comes from the mouth of the god himself. The goddesses can bare many children from Gods but generally the chosen son is some form of miracle pregnancy of a pure woman only worthy to carry such a child. Sorry......us dirty woman are no good!

We can deny God's history as much as we want but the fact is all these stories are the same. Which makes me question...

Is the God story just a bad game of telephone over the years?

Do these stories have significance because no matter where in the world, with no contact like we do today, groups of people all have the same basic story. Grant it a different take, name tec but the story is the same through and through.

Do we need God for our society? Does religion help or harm us? Is religion God? Or is God just a religion?
